Key Points to Note for Starting and Stopping Magnetic Separators

Magnetic separators are currently one of the most widely used high-intensity magnetic equipment. The precautions for their startup and shutdown are as follows:

(1) Before startup, a comprehensive inspection of the equipment must first be conducted, and the reason for the last shutdown should be clarified. If the shutdown was caused by equipment failure, the fault must be eliminated before considering startup. After confirming that the equipment (including electrical equipment) is in good condition through inspection, first perform a jog test on the working components. If the components rotate flexibly without jamming after one full rotation, it indicates that there are no obstacles in the working parts; otherwise, inspect and remove the obstacles.

(2) Start the main machine. After it operates normally, apply the excitation current. Note that the current should not be set to the rated value at once; instead, it should be gradually increased to the specified value. The following operations are strictly prohibited:

Starting the main machine before supplying water;

Applying excitation before starting the main machine;

Starting the main machine with a load.

After the main machine operates normally and the excitation is stable, ore can be fed. Pay attention to the following requirements for the fed ore:

No impurities (such as wood chips) shall be contained;

No ore particles larger than the gap of the tooth plate shall be included;

No strongly magnetic minerals shall be present.

Typically, before high-intensity magnetic separation, strongly magnetic minerals should be removed through low-intensity magnetic separation, and impurities and large ore particles should be filtered out using a sieve to prevent blockage of the tooth plate gap. In addition, the mass fraction of the fed ore should be appropriate, and the ore feeding rate should be uniform.

(3) Before starting the main machine, open the valves of all water pipes, check if the water nozzles are blocked, and verify the pressure gauge to ensure the pressure meets the specified requirement. Then start the oil pump. The procedure for starting the oil pump is as follows:

First open the cooling water pipes and all valves in the oil circuit;

Then start the oil pump.

After starting the oil pump, check whether the oil pressure is normal and whether there is oil leakage at any part of the oil circuit. It is essential to maintain normal circulation of the oil circuit.
